Play Madden for money

Play Madden for real money — every season, same rules.

Locked runs 1v1 Madden money matches on Madden NFL 27 and Madden NFL 26, both live in the same picker. Two players stake the same amount from $2.50, both stakes lock in escrow, and the winner takes 90% of the pot the moment the result is confirmed. A new Madden ships every August; the rules of winning money on it don't change.

Play Madden 1v1

What does “playing Madden for money” mean?

It means a 1v1 game where both players put real money on the result. On Locked, two players stake the same amount — starting at $2.50 each — and the stakes lock in escrow while the match is played on EA's normal online servers. When both players confirm the score, the winner's wallet is credited the full pot minus Locked's flat 10% fee: two $10 entries make a $20 pot and an $18 payout. No bookmaker, no odds — play-calling, reads and execution decide who gets paid.

Which Madden title can I play for money right now?

Both: Madden NFL 27 and Madden NFL 26. Madden NFL 27 shipped on 13 August 2026 and is the edition the picker preselects; Madden NFL 26 is one tap away in the same picker, so the half of the lobby that has not upgraded is not locked out. Money matches run in H2H Seasons, MUT via Play A Friend, or a direct Play a Friend invite, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with EA's cross-play rules deciding who can face whom.

Pick the edition when you create the challenge — the two titles run on separate servers, so a Madden 26 challenge and a Madden 27 challenge are different games and never meet. The dedicated Madden 26 money matches page covers the modes, rules and title-specific FAQs, and the Madden 27 Cup is the bracket route on the newer title.

What rules does a Madden money match run under?

Two things are fixed when the challenge is created: the mode and the series length. Madden money matches run as H2H Seasons — both players pick their own teams, no roster restrictions — or as MUT through Play A Friend, where the squad you built plays for the pot. Series defaults to a single game; best of two and best of three are the alternatives. The rules ride on the challenge itself, so both players can read them before either stake locks.

ModeWhat you play withRule line on the challenge
H2H SeasonsWhat you play withBoth players pick their own teamsRule line on the challengeNo roster restrictions
MUT (Ultimate Team)What you play withYour MUT roster, entered through Play A FriendRule line on the challengeNo MUT Champs effect

The two modes are different contests, not two doors to the same one. MUT puts the roster you have invested in on the line, so squad building is part of what you are staking on. H2H Seasons is the flatter test — the same off-the-rack teams either player could have picked — which is the one to challenge in when you want the football, not the collection, to decide it.

What proof settles a disputed Madden result?

Both players submit the result when the game ends. If the two submissions agree, the pot is credited straight away. If they disagree, both stakes stay locked in escrow and a human admin rules on the evidence within 24 hours. In Madden the capture that settles it is the post-game summary showing the final score with both gamertags on screen — a photo of a scoreboard with no gamertags proves a score, not who played it.

The most common Madden claim is a quit before the clock runs out. Capture the score at the moment of the disconnect and the message that follows it, then submit that as your result. Locked does not host the gameplay — matches run on EA's normal online servers — so the evidence you capture is what the ruling is made on.

How much can you win per Madden match?

The winner always takes 90% of the combined pot, whatever the stake. The minimum entry is $2.50 per player; maximum stakes scale with your account level. The fee never changes — a flat 10% of the pot at every level, deducted from the winner's payout. Draws refund both players in full, with no fee taken.

Each entryTotal potWinner receivesPlatform fee
$2.50$5$4.50$0.50
$10$20$18$2
$25$50$45$5
$100$200$180$20
$500$1,000$900$100

Does Locked run Madden cash tournaments, or only 1v1?

Both, and they are two different ways to play Madden for cash. A 1v1 money match is two players and one stake each, and it runs on demand — you create it, someone accepts, you play. A cash tournament is a bracket with a fixed entry, a set field and a prize pool split across several placings, and it runs on a schedule. Locked has run both. The most recent Madden bracket was the Madden 27 Cup: $5 entry, 32 spots, $200 in prizes across 8 paid placings.

The difference that matters when you pick one: in a 1v1 you can only lose your stake and you get paid the same day you play, while in a bracket you can lose your entry to a single bad game but the top prize is a multiple of it. Tournaments are announced with their entry, field and full payout table before registration opens — how Locked cups work has the format and the ones already run.

Can I play Madden NFL 27 for money on Locked?

Yes, as a 1v1 money match. Madden NFL 27 released on August 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. ET for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, and it is in Locked's game picker as the preselected Madden edition. Create the challenge, pick Madden NFL 27, set your stake from $2.50, and it works like any other match: both stakes into escrow on accept, the winner credited the pot minus the flat 10%.

Madden NFL 26 did not go away when 27 arrived, and that is deliberate. Two editions are live in the same picker because an edition is a real compatibility wall — the two titles run on separate servers, so a Madden 26 player and a Madden 27 player can never be matched. Offering only the new one would not merge the lobby; it would hide half of it, and every match that half arranges somewhere else is a match that never starts here.

There is a second Madden 27 route as well, and it is a tournament rather than a staked 1v1: the Locked Madden 27 Cup, a 32-player single-elimination bracket on Saturday August 29, 2026 at 9:00 p.m. ET. Entry is $5, 8 of the 32 finishers are paid, and every placing is published before entry. The escrow, the flat 10% fee and the dispute rules described on this page govern 1v1 money matches; a cup entry is a different transaction and the cup page states its own terms. How Locked cash tournaments work covers the format itself — where the prize pool comes from, and how it compares with staking a 1v1.

Your edge carries over between editions. Sliders and metas shift each release, but play-calling, pre-snap reads, clock management and tendency-breaking transfer. Expect a short adjustment window on a new title, not a reset — and your Locked account and wallet are per player, not per title, so nothing has to be re-set up.

Does cross-play decide who I can face in a Madden money match?

EA sets the opponent pool, not Locked. Per EA's own cross-play FAQ for Madden NFL 26 — and EA publishes the same three platforms for Madden NFL 27 — cross-play is available only on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, across online Head-to-Head, Franchise, Madden Ultimate Team, Superstar KO and Superstar Showdown. It is enabled by default the first time you launch the game on any of those three, and it is opted out of in the in-game settings menu on PC and PS5, or through console system settings on Xbox Series X|S.

Madden NFL 26Cross-play platforms (per EA)PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|SStakeable on LockedYes — one tap away in the same picker

The Switch 2 caveat on the Madden 27 row is the one that catches people: you can buy Madden NFL 27 on Nintendo Switch 2, but EA's Madden 27 cross-play FAQ lists cross-play for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. A platform you can buy a game on is not automatically a platform you can be matched from — which is a separate limit from the edition itself, and both apply.

This matters more with money on the line than in a casual game. Both stakes lock into escrow the moment a challenge is accepted, so if you and your opponent are on different platforms and either of you has cross-play switched off, money is committed to a match you may not be able to start. Check the setting before you accept, not after. If a match genuinely cannot be played, submit your result with the evidence rather than walking away — disagreeing submissions keep both stakes in escrow and a human admin rules on them within 24 hours.

Cross-play details read from EA's Madden NFL 26 and Madden NFL 27 cross-play FAQs on 2026-08-17. EA can change them, and its own pages are the authority — not this one.

Can you try Madden money matches without depositing?

No — a stake has to be funded before it can lock into escrow, so there is no no-deposit route to a paid Madden 1v1. What new Locked players get instead is their first deposit matched 100%, up to $25 in bonus, from a $5 minimum: put in $5 and you play with $10, put in $25 and you play with $50. The terms, in plain English: the bonus carries a 3× playthrough before it can be withdrawn and expires 7 days after it lands. Every condition is on the welcome-offer page.

Is playing Madden for money legal in the United States?

Madden outcomes turn on play-calling, pre-snap reads and execution, and Locked is designed to operate as a skill-based contest under UIGEA — the U.S. federal law that carves out games of skill from its definition of unlawful gambling. State laws vary, and players are responsible for confirming legality in their own jurisdiction. This is general information, not legal advice. Our explainer on whether playing video games for money is legal quotes the statutes directly — including the limits of the UIGEA carve-out — and the how it works page explains the skill-contest structure.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Madden NFL 27 released on 13 August 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, and it is in Locked's 1v1 game picker alongside Madden NFL 26 — pick the edition when you create the challenge and stake it like any other match. There is also a tournament route: the Locked Madden 27 Cup, a 32-player bracket on Saturday 29 August 2026 with a $5 entry and 8 paid places.

No, and that is a limit of the games rather than of Locked. Madden NFL 26 and Madden NFL 27 are separate titles with separate online servers, so there is no lobby where the two meet. Every Locked challenge names its edition, both in the picker that creates it and on the card that another player accepts, so you know which game you are agreeing to before either stake locks in escrow.

Yes, and EA sets that rule, not Locked. Per EA's own cross-play FAQ for Madden NFL 26, cross-play runs only on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, across online Head-to-Head, Franchise, Madden Ultimate Team, Superstar KO and Superstar Showdown. It is enabled by default at first launch and can be opted out of, so confirm the setting before you accept a challenge — both stakes lock into escrow the moment you do.

No. Your Locked account and wallet are per player, not per game title — your balance stays put and you simply pick the current title when creating a challenge.

Your wallet is credited the moment both players confirm the result — the full pot minus the 10% fee. Withdrawals are approved by hand after a security check: over the last 90 days, half were approved within about 6 hours and 9 in 10 within 24 hours (33 approved withdrawals to September 12, 2026), and identity verification can add time.

Yes — Madden supports Ultimate Team head-to-head via the Play A Friend flow inside MUT, so the roster you have built can play for the pot. Standard H2H Seasons is the default when you want even, off-the-rack teams.

No. The H2H Seasons mode on Locked runs with both players picking their own teams and no roster restrictions — that rule line is attached to the mode, so both players read it before either stake is locked. MUT is the mode where the squad you built is part of the contest.

Submit the result with evidence — a capture of the score at the moment they quit, plus the disconnect message. Both stakes stay locked in escrow while the claim is open, and if the two submissions disagree a human admin rules on the evidence within 24 hours. Quitting does not release the pot to the quitter.

No — a stake has to be funded before it can lock into escrow, so there is no no-deposit route to a paid Madden 1v1. New Locked players do get their first deposit matched 100%, up to $25 in bonus, from a $5 minimum: put in $5 and you play with $10. The bonus carries a 3× playthrough before it can be withdrawn and expires 7 days after it lands.

Both. A 1v1 money match is two players, one stake each, created on demand. A cash tournament is a bracket with a fixed entry, a set field and a prize pool split across placings, and it runs on a schedule. The most recent Madden bracket was the Madden 27 Cup: $5 entry, 32 spots, $200 in prizes across 8 paid placings. Every cup publishes its entry, field and full payout table before registration opens.

No. There are no odds, no spreads and no bookmaker — both players stake the same amount and the winner takes the pot minus the flat 10% fee. Locked earns the same on every match, whoever wins.
