Why play NBA 2K26 on Locked instead of elsewhere

  • No bookmaker — your opponent is another real player.
  • Stakes from $2.50 to $1,000, with verified high-roller limits available.
  • Escrow on every match; funds release only when the result is confirmed.
  • Disputes reviewed by a human admin within 24 hours.
  • Built for skill-based contests, not chance — designed to be UIGEA compliant.
  • Quarter length and team type are visible to both players before stakes lock.

Is playing NBA 2K26 for money legal in the United States?

No federal statute answers this nationally. UIGEA carves games of skill out of its definition of unlawful internet gambling, and Locked is built to sit inside that carve-out: both players stake the same amount, no house takes a position against you, and the result turns on shot timing, defensive rotations and clock management. States define gambling themselves, though, and the test they apply differs from one to the next.

One NBA 2K26 detail is worth naming, because it cuts against us and most platforms leave it out. MyTeam lineups are assembled partly from card packs — a chance mechanism sitting upstream of the match. Our explainer argues that in-game randomness is symmetric, since both players run the same title on the same settings and nothing is dealt to one side. A MyTeam roster is the one case on this page where that symmetry argument is weaker: what each player brings to the floor was shaped in part by packs. Play Now Online is the cleanest answer to the objection — current NBA rosters on both sides, default 5-minute quarters, no lineup built from packs. We are not going to tell you the question is closed.

Whichever mode you pick, the rule set is fixed before any money moves: quarter length, team type and mode are visible to both players, and stakes only lock once both accept. Locked requires players to be at least 18, which is the floor in its terms of service, not a legal ceiling for your state.

  • How the legality question actually works in the US — the two chance tests states actually apply, what UIGEA does and does not do, and how to check your own state instead of trusting a list.
  • Responsible play — limits, self-exclusion and what to do if this stops being a game.

Frequently asked questions

You choose when you create the challenge: 5-minute quarters (the default), 8-minute or 12-minute. The setting rides on the challenge, so both players see it before either stake locks — if either disagrees, the match is not accepted.

The default is Online Teams, which restricts both players to the current NBA rosters. You can switch the challenge to Any Team when you create it, and either way the setting is visible to both players before stakes lock.

A disconnection is meant to be resumed first: both players start a new game and play out the time that was left, keeping the score from the game that dropped. If that does not happen, take a screenshot of the score and the disconnect screen, open a dispute and upload the evidence. Both stakes stay locked in escrow while a human admin rules on it, with a 24-hour review target.

$2.50 per player. The total pot is $5, the winner receives $4.50 after the 10% platform fee.

No. The NBA 2K League is the official esports league with salaried pro players. Locked is open to any player who wants to stake real money on a 1v1.

Locked is designed to operate as a skill-based contest under UIGEA, which carves out games of skill from the federal definition of unlawful gambling. State laws vary; users are responsible for confirming legality in their jurisdiction.
