Most guides to making money at EA FC stop at "find a site, win games". The number they leave out is the only one that decides whether you do: on a platform charging a flat 10% of the pot, you need to win 55.6% of your decided matches just to break even — five of every nine. A player who wins as often as they lose is losing money slowly. That is not an argument against money matches; it is the arithmetic of any format that charges a fee, and it is identical on every platform that charges one.
What follows is the part under your control: what a match pays, why football's draw changes the maths in a way Madden's and 2K's do not, which mode rewards preparation, and which EA FC edition you can put money on today.
How much does an EA FC money match actually pay?
Both players stake the same amount, the two stakes make the pot, and the winner takes the pot minus a flat 10%. There is no bookmaker and no odds margin — the money comes from the other player, not from a house position.
| Each player stakes | Pot | Winner receives | Your net gain |
|---|---|---|---|
| $2.50 | Pot$5.00 | Winner receives$4.50 | Your net gain$2.00 |
| $10.00 | Pot$20.00 | Winner receives$18.00 | Your net gain$8.00 |
| $25.00 | Pot$50.00 | Winner receives$45.00 | Your net gain$20.00 |
| $100.00 | Pot$200.00 | Winner receives$180.00 | Your net gain$80.00 |
Stakes on Locked start at $2.50 and run to $1,000 per match. The full fee breakdown, including what happens on draws and cancellations, is on the pricing page.
What win rate do you actually need to profit?
55.6%, or five wins in every nine decided matches. The asymmetry is what catches people: at equal stakes a win returns 90% of a pot you funded half of, so winning nets you 0.8× your stake while losing costs the full 1×. At $10 a side that is +$8 per win against −$10 per loss. Break-even is 5/9, not 50%.
The practical consequence is one match in ten. A player who wins 6 of 10 is profitable; a player who wins 5 of 10 is slowly losing; the whole difference between them is a single match. That is a preparation problem, not a luck problem.
What does a draw do to the pot?
Nothing — and that matters more in football than in any other title Locked runs. A drawn match carries no fee and both stakes are refunded in full, so it moves nothing in either direction. Madden and NBA 2K almost never end level; EA FC does, often, and a 1–1 after ninety minutes is not a loss for either player.
Two things follow. First, the 55.6% figure applies to decided matches: draws are not in the denominator, so a player who draws a lot is not losing money on those matches, only time. Second, a draw is the one result an opponent cannot dispute their way out of — it is the same for both players. If you are new to money matches and want a cheap read on an unknown opponent, a match that ends level has still told you whether they show up, play the agreed settings and report honestly.
Which EA FC title can you stake right now?
Both — EA Sports FC 26 and EA Sports FC 27. FC 26 is the preselected edition in Locked's game picker, with FC 27 one tap away in the same picker from its early access opening on 18 September 2026 (worldwide 25 September). Either way you select the edition when you create the challenge and stake it from $2.50, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with EA's cross-play rules deciding who can face whom.
FC 26 stays preselected through the early access week for a practical reason rather than a nostalgic one: in that week the new edition is only in the hands of people who paid for early access, and a challenge posted in an edition your opponent cannot open does not get accepted — it simply expires and returns the stake.
An edition is a hard wall in EA FC as in every other title: players on different yearly releases are on separate online servers and can never be matched. The EA FC 27 page carries the new edition's modes and rules, the EA FC 26 page the edition most of the lobby is still on, and the EA FC money matches page is the evergreen one that covers both.
Which modes are worth playing for money?
Three are supported: Online Seasons, Ultimate Team Friendlies and Play a Friend.
They are not interchangeable for a money match. Online Seasons is the standard format — 6-minute halves, both players choosing from the same club and national teams — so the result is about your play, not your squad. Ultimate Team Friendlies mean you bring a squad you have built, which rewards time and money already sunk into FUT, and can be a real disadvantage against an established Ultimate Team player. Play a Friend is the direct invite for a specific opponent.
If you are new, Online Seasons is the fairer read on your actual level.
What separates players who profit from players who don't?
Three habits, and none of them are secrets.
Stake discipline. The break-even math above is per match, but variance is per session. Players who chase a loss by doubling the next stake convert a bad night into a bad month. Pick a stake you would be content to lose ten times in a row and stay there.
Squad-rule discipline. Agree the mode before you accept, not at kick-off. On Locked the mode is printed on the challenge both players see; anywhere else, get it in writing. An opponent who turns up with a FUT squad to a match agreed as Seasons has told you what kind of opponent they are.
Playing the state of the match, not the scoreline you wanted. At equal stakes, both players want the same thing you do. The edge is in what you do at 0–0 with ten minutes left, not in the formation you picked in the menu.
What happens if your opponent quits or disconnects mid-match?
Not what most players assume, and worth knowing before money is on the line. A disconnection is not an automatic win: under Locked's terms both players finish the remaining time in a new match, carrying the score forward — disconnect in the 60th minute at 1–0 and you play the last thirty minutes from 1–0.
A genuinely disputed result is different. Both players submit evidence, an admin reviews it and rules within 24 hours, and the stakes stay in escrow until then. Nobody is promised a verdict in advance. The full settlement rules, including draws and evidence standards, are on how it works.
Is playing EA FC for money legal?
In most U.S. states, paid competitions decided by skill are generally treated as something other than gambling, because gambling normally requires an outcome determined by chance. Head-to-head EA FC is decided by the players. But there is no federal statute that settles this nationally, state laws differ, and a few states restrict paid skill contests outright.
No honest page can answer this for your address. The hedged, sourced version — with the primary sources cited — is at is playing video games for money legal.
This is general information, not legal advice. You must be 18 or older, and nobody should be playing money matches while chasing a loss. If that describes tonight, read responsible play instead of creating a challenge.
Where can you play EA FC for money?
Locked runs 1v1 EA FC 26 money matches with both stakes escrowed on accept, a published flat 10% fee, and disputes reviewed by a human within 24 hours. We support three sports titles and nothing else — no Call of Duty, no Fortnite — and our player pool is smaller than the incumbents'.
If a broader catalog or daily tournament volume matters more to you than escrow on every stake, that trade-off is real and we have written it up honestly, competitors included, in sites like Players' Lounge, compared. The same arithmetic for the other two titles is in how to make money playing Madden and how to make money playing NBA 2K.
New players can double their first deposit; the terms, in plain English, are on the welcome offer page.
